Copyright clearance is an essential component of writing and publishing that establishes a legal record of the due dligence performed to obtain obtain permission or release to use copyrighted materials.
Authors and publishers are responsible for obtaining permission to use copyrighted works that appear in their works. In most cases, difficulty in identifying the copyright owner of a work will not relieve a user of the legal obligation to secure permission.Clearance is not just a professional courtesy. Failure to meet this enforceable obligation may have harmful financial and professional consequences.

PRESENTATIONS - The first step is to gain an awareness of copyright issues. Joyce and Dan Miller are available for one-hour +/- presentations at conferences and workshops such as those listed below.
CONSULTATION - A second way is to schedule a one-on-one consulting session to discuss your specific copyright issues and questions. WORKSHOPS - If you live in or plan to visit Colorado, a third option is participation in one of the half-day Basics of Copyright Clearance Workshops that Joyce and Dan conduct periodically. See testimonials from some who have attended.

CIPA College - March 26-27, 2010

Joyce Miller will be presenting a session on copyright at the 2010 Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA) College. The presentation is titledQuotes and Other Copyrighted Content: Getting and Giving Permissions is scheduled at 3:40 PM on March 27th. She will also be conducting a roundtable discussion on copyright from 4:30 - 5:30 PM that afternoon as well. CIPA College is being held at the Red Lion Hotel located at 4040 Quebec Street, Denver.
